Counselling Offers Many Benefits
Counselling is often the first and usually one of the best weapons we have against a range of challenging mental-health issues like depression, complicated-grief and anxiety to name just a few.
But counselling is not just for mental-health issues, it’s also an effective strategy for dealing with relationship problems and other difficult life events. Indeed, counselling is a multi-faceted therapeutic approach to dealing with many of life’s challenges.
For example, many people find that they are held-back by their own narrow and finite views of themselves which can act to constrain them in achieving their life’s desires and goals – some people even hold back from seeking a promotion because they harbour intense and debilitative emotions of self-doubt, unworthiness or fated defeatism. Counselling can help you to bolster your ‘facilitative emotions’ to outweigh those debilitative emotions and teach you how to become a more assertive and resilient person, so as to achieve some of life’s seemingly illusive goals:
- A Less Stressful Life
- Happiness & Fulfilment
- A More Balanced Life
- A Better Understanding of You

Counselling for Anxiety & Depression
Did you know, in Australia the most prevalent mental disorders are depression and anxiety related. Often, these types of disorders occur in combination. For example, a person with an anxiety disorder is more likely to develop depression.
Anxiety Counselling
Occasional anxiety is a normal emotion that almost everyone experiences. For instance, you may feel anxious before an important interview, speaking in front of an audience, or on the first day of a new job. However, excessive anxiety levels can negatively impact your quality of life. If your anxiety is affecting your life’s enjoyment it might be time to get help.
Depression Counselling
Depression is a mental health disorder which affects mood, including how you feel, think, and behave. Of course, everyone feels sad sometimes, but when it starts to affect your ability to perform daily tasks and enjoy things that typically bring you happiness, you may be suffering from depression. In severe cases (Manic Depressive Disorder), depression can increase a person’s risk of self-harm.
CBT is a great option if you’re struggling with Anxiety or Depression
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective therapeutical treatment for a wide range of mental and emotional health issues, including for anxiety and depression.
Research has shown CBT to be particularly effective in the treatment of panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety disorder, and generalised anxiety disorders, and major depressive disorders (MDD) among many other conditions.
Essentially, CBT focuses on changing unhelpful and unhealthy cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes) and behaviours in order to improve one’s emotional regulation and behavioural responses. Ultimately, CBT therapy aims to equip clients with the tools to change their maladaptive cognitive and behavioural patterns.
Taking the First Step
Taking the first step in seeking out therapy can be daunting for any person. But it is this first step that is most important. It is the first step in addressing whatever issue is robbing you of your right to life’s enjoyment.
